PALM HARBOR, Florida—The Law Offices of Sherri M. Stinson hosted a networking event on November 16th, 2022 to benefit Silver Santas—a grassroots organization dedicated to helping isolated and low-income seniors—where the firm facilitated the adoption of seven seniors and participants contributed over $500 in new clothing, hygiene products, blankets, candy, and small personal items towards the 1,000 bags of provisions the project aims to deliver during the holiday season.
Florida estate planning and elder law attorney Sherri M. Stinson explained, “Our firm is well-equipped to help seniors and their families throughout all seasons, but the holidays often bring with them opportunities to reach out and help those in need. We aim to not only encourage this behavior among those around us, but seek to embody this spirit with our services as we proactively aid seniors and their families in protecting the legacies they have worked so hard to build throughout their lives.”
Seniors living at home, in assisted living, or in senior housing communities submitted their wishlists before the event, and community members then fulfilled requests in those wishlists as contributions to the effort. Various supporters at the Silver Santas event also brought items such as newly-purchased toiletries, socks, blankets, slippers, snacks, and other clothing items, as well as 2023 wall calendars.
This 2022 Silver Santas event was a success: Networking participants demonstrated through acts of kindness how much they truly care about seniors in the local community. Networkers also enjoyed coffee, holiday desserts, and hot chocolate while mingling and spreading some holiday cheer among each other and some less fortunate individuals who may have otherwise been forgotten due to social isolation.
The importance of planning for one’s Golden Years by maintaining a thorough and updated estate plan was not lost among the professionals participating at the event. Community members can support Silver Santas’ efforts in a variety of ways in 2022, and donations are tax-deductible. Professionals in Pinellas County are also encouraged to plan for participation in Silver Santas in 2023.
